Taffy tins

The original soft whipped salt water taffy was first sold on the broadwalk of Atlantic city New Jersey – is it made with real salt water from the ocean?

The answer is no, and the only salt found in the taffy recipes is the same stuff used in any candy. So why is it called ‘Salt Water’ Taffy?

No one really knows who was responsible for its recipe. Another legend says it was created by the Ritchie brothers and Windie Hollis in 1880. Taffy historic claim that the candy was being sold at Midwest country fairs that same year, but the Ritchie Brothers and Hollis were the first to make the candy in Atlantic City. So they may or may not have been the candy’s original creators.
